OEAM is done at Ao3. Everything is uploaded and has all been handed over to me to run. There are almost 3800 stories in the archive. Feel free to add your new works - just choose Of Elves and Men when it asks what collections you're posting to. Stories can belong to more than one collection.

OEAM is finally being archived

Of Elves and Men has been gone for about 3 years. It contained over 3000 works and many of them were not posted anywhere else. We changed the site over to a self upload in 2015, since everyone said they wanted that but everyone turned out to be mostly no one, so when my webhost began asking for several hundred dollars a month to keep the site up, I closed it.

I contacted Ao3 in 2019 about moving the site to Ao3 to preserve it as part of their Open Doors, which tried to preserve fandom. They started then sort of disappeared for more than a year. Evidently the person who had our account quit and in the last few months, we have gotten a new person and at the end of October, they will begin to import the work to Ao3.

If they have a usable email for you, they will probably contact you. If you know they don't have one, please follow the directions on these links and contact them.

Yahoo Groups Closing

Everyone seems to be coming unhinged about Yahoo. I really don't know why. I have several Tolkien groups - the ones that OEAM website was made from. No one has posted to them in YEARS and I deleted the OEAM website this year because no one was using it but adbots. Since we worked very hard to make a self upload site and all the people who wanted it never used it, I said to hell with it. OEAM will be archived at Ao3 whenever they finish with the work... I have heard NOTHING since June when I signed all the documents for that. I have a query sent to them.

I have no idea why there is fiction in any of the files at my groups. I certainly asked people to post it at the website instead. There are quite a few photos at several of them. If you're a member, feel free to nab what you want from those.

If there is interest, we might open a chatgroup at Discord (or even a Facebook group). Let me know if you want to be a part of that and I will make it so.

IMPORTANT OEAM NEWS: If you have fic there that you want to save, I suggest that you nab it from the site by March 31. The host is changing PHP whatever that is and I am not sure we will have a site after that. I have no way to change or fix anything and frankly, no one uses the site anymore so if it goes down, i may just drop it. If it does not disappear, I may have Ao3 archive it.

If any of you know anything about PHP and such, let me know.

If any of you have your story done with 10,000 words or more, please go ahead and post to Ao3 and post to Collections / Challenges: OEAM Big Bang (OEAM_Big_Bang). I will also make a post here and at OEAM LH/DW for you to link your story. You may also post it at http://www.ofelvesandmen.com/ - if your fandom is not represented, let me know and I can add your fandom and your characters. You can also post a link to this on the LJ/DW community.

Let us say this is open from now until March 15. This will give anyone who almost got atory done some time to finish it. I think I may even have one to post myself!

We are getting started a little late this year so we will say holiday instead of Christmas and make the sending deadline December 10th. IMPORTANT: Card Swap Info

Dear Card Swappers!

I’ve thought about the card swap and this is the way we will do it. A card swap is pretty easy… you basically send cards to folks and get cards from folks. I don’t think our list of participants is terribly long so it shouldn’t pose a hardship to anyone. Cards can be pretty cheap and postage for 20 wouldn’t be much more than a fast food meal with a large drink.

I will act as the clearinghouse.

1. We set a deadline for participants.
2. Everyone sends ME their address and I send a copy of the list to all participants.
3. You send a card to everyone on the list.
4. You get cards from everyone on the list.
5. You make some new friends and get some nice cards to enjoy for the holidays.

I think December 5th is a good number. Send me your addies by December 5th and I will email the list to you by December 8th and the rest is up to you.

I am not done or hardly started because I am a putter offer and I need much more time.

I am desperate for some help. We need a new host for OEAM - not Aplus because we already tried there.

I need someone to move the site for me...I hate to let it die but I have no choice if I can't find somewhere new to put it. Lunarpages is trying to sell us an expensive plan by threatening to shut us down and I fear that will happen soon as we already went through all this one time.

If you can help, let me know ASAP.

OEAM Big Bang Signups in July

What is a Big Bang?
A Big Bang is a challenge in which you have 4 months to write a 20,000 word story. You have a second choice - a 10,000 word Mini Bang.

For those of you not writers, there will also be an art challenge to create art for the stories in the challenge.

Beta readers will also be called to help get those stories ready for posting!

Hi all,

It’s a little late this year. We were in Germany for most of May so I am starting a little late but it’s time for the OEAM Big Bang again. I have already made up the schedule and it ends around Christmas but we do have a generous amount of writing time and we still have the option of a 10,000 word Mini Bang or a 20,000 word regular Big bang.

We will begin sign ups on July 1. The usual fandoms will be included. All OEAM fandoms are eligible and if you have one that is not listed but might be related in some way, ask me. We can be flexible since our group is usually pretty small.

I’ll be making some banners and such and would LOVE for this to get promoted a lot more than last year. I’ll have those and the schedule up this week. Be on the lookout for it!

Please join us! You’ve got all of June and then some to decide what you’re going to write.
